Thrifty Thursday: Vintage Patterns

You might have noticed that I’m a sucker for any item that has a story or evokes an emotion. And Retromended Vintage Boutique is the place that provides this by the rack full (read about my first experience there). I initially loved this blouse just because of the sweet and girly vintage pattern. But once I found out the story, it became much more interesting.

During this blouses prime time, the quirky owner got all of her blouses sewn with the same button near the collar. The purpose was to keep the blouse flap from opening. What a curious (and a bit neurotic) lady! Of course, I came up with a detailed (and fake) back story for her. She was a librarian and a stickler for rules. Every book was perfectly aligned when she was around and even her smile was controlled and calculated. Although that doesn’t quite describe me, I do feel like we might have shared a few characteristics (I can get a little obsessive about my organization), as well as the love for this vintage blouse. When I slip it on, I feel as if maybe I am taking on some of her traits. Bringing life to this blouse and to her again…creepy?

When you buy vintage pieces, do you think of the previous owner?
