DIY: An Easy 3-Step Crop Top

It’s another quick DIY (see here for the first one)! This one is so simple that I’m sure you’re going to run over to your t-shirts and start cutting them up immediately.

Recently, I was hunting for a cute graphic crop top but all I was running into were some $40 options, um, thanks but no thanks. That’s when I took matters into my own hands and grabbed this little number for $1. Now time to chop up!

Step 1: Decide on the design of your new shirt. Try it on to make sure you don’t cut it too short. For my design, I removed the collar, the sleeves, and the bottom of the t-shirt to make shorter.

Step 2: Turn the t-shirt inside out and pin back the edges in which you want a finished edge. In my case, I choose only the bottom and left the collar and sleeves with the raw edges to give it a “rough” look.

Step 3: Sew the hem that you folded. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just a straight line through. Done!

To finish off the look, I wore a Boy Scout uniform top that I found at the thrift store. I thought it was appropriate for Memorial Day weekend since it invokes thoughts of national pride, service, and leadership. I’d like to think that the little boy that dropped this off at the thrift store is out there somewhere still proudly representing the nation, whether it’s in a uniform or not. And hopefully he wouldn’t be terribly annoyed that now a girl (with cooties) owns his beloved uniform!
