A Little Bit of Rock and Roll

Can you believe I found this lively shirt abandoned on a clearance rack? I saw ladies pass over it time and time again. The poor thing. Sure it’s a little strange, a little loud, and a little too big. But who of us doesn’t have a few flaws? It’s what makes us irreplaceable and fun.

Instead of banishing this shirt to a lifetime of markdowns, I took it home with a plan to bring out all its glorious funkiness. In fact, I made its funkiness center stage because this shirt makes me feel like a rock star. It’s the shirt I would throw on for a crazy, sweaty show, to meet frenzied fans, to shred a guitar.

The colors, the sequins, the graphics – they satisfy my rock star altar ego. It’s the perfect costume for the rock star life I live in my dreams and when I win that Grammy, my acceptance speech will begin with: “It all started with an amazing shirt…”

Fashion Tip: Can your shirt light up a room with its bevy of bedazzling? Don’t let that scare you. If you have a superstar article of clothing, keep the rest of your outfit simple and sleek. I paired my top with basic black jeans, booties, and a classic jean jacket, then finished it off with a bright red lip color. I am a rock star, after all.

Seasonal Transitions

One of the major challenges of being a Florida Fashionista comes around the Winter season. I yearn for the super fabulous fur boots, cozy sweaters, and silky scarves (let me clarify that I don't yearn for the weather just the fashion!). But should I really spend money on an entirely new winter wardrobe? Unfortunately, the answer is no. A cold front for a week in January makes it difficult for me to justify winter purchases. Admittedly, I've had the same sweaters for about 8 years now..sad..I know. To overcome this challenge, I've figured out a few tricks to make my summer and spring outfits more wintery. For this ensemble I exchanged my summer sandals and floppy hat for a long-sleeved shirt, scarf, tights, boots and voila! It’s like I’m not even a Floridian…okay, that might be a stretch.

Fashion Tip: Toss a long-sleeved shirt and sweater over that light summer dress to transform your look into a new winter outfit. Don’t be shy about using your floral dresses either!

My 1 Year Wedding Anniversary

Sure, people say it all the time: Where has the time gone? A rushed morning flies by, a lazy afternoon drips away, a fun night flashes away, and a year, well… I can’t believe it’s already been one truly wonder-filled year since I married the man of my dreams. It feels like it was just yesterday. This year has been filled with so many celebrations, big and small, and even more love. I couldn’t have asked for anything more or anything better.

I know what you’re thinking: this blog is about fashion! And while that’s true, I wanted to write about my wedding day because if it not for my husbands support, encouragement, and superb photography skills, this blog would not exist.

So to my husband: thank you, for inspiring and encouraging love in so many ways.

And to my readers: here's your fashion fix, our wedding attire and wedding day!

Our wedding took place in Miami, Florida, at the always-gorgeous Deering Estate. Our vision was to integrate our cultures and our families on the most important day of our lives and it was a spectacular success! We had Puerto Rican and Mexican food stations, a traditional Latin ceremony, and, of course, a Mariachi band. As a special touch, our wedding party was made up of all of our immediate family members (and a cousin that has always been like a sister).

After the wedding, we decided on a Rock the Dress session in Puerto Rico, so I could have a memory of our wedding in my home country. It was great to have family that could not attend the wedding celebrate again with us. And as an added surprise, what started as a business trip with our photographer ended up as a fun-filled weekend and a genuine friendship.

It’s been a fun journey and I’m excited about what the future has in store for our little family. For now, I hope you enjoy the pictures and the quick glimpse into my new, married life!

Fashion tip: Don’t know what to do with that dress? Rock it at a special photography session. No need to worry about tears, creases, wrinkles, or dirt! This session is all about letting go of the stress and formality and reliving and remembering a beautiful day in a beautiful gown.

My New Year’s Celebration

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year’s celebration!

This year my friends were kind enough to treat me to some tickets to party with the internationally known DJ Kaskade. So on Friday, I went back home to Miami and attended Kaskade at Liv Nightclub in South Beach. There were dancing bodies in every corner. Gorgeous models, tipsy celebrities, confused tourists, and regular peeps like me. We had a blast jumping, singing, and dancing the night away while anticipating the arrival of the New Year. Plus, how often do I get to dress like I’m about to be in a P. Diddy video?? Alright, maybe that’s not attire I should be excited to wear. Regardless, I rocked it out and got sparkly and sexy to celebrate in South Beach.

After I recovered from that crazy evening, I had a lovely time on the 31st at an intimate dinner with my family at Sustain in Midtown Miami (I highly recommend it!). We sipped wine, ate strawberries, and counted down the seconds to the New Year. A pleasant evening that came to an end with enchanting fireworks going off in the distance. A great way to start the New Year!

What did you do to celebrate?

(They handed out glowing Kaskade dolls at Liv!)

(Can't have New Year's without fireworks!)
