Imagine this, if you will:
You open the door of your
cool, even cold air conditioned home, cautiously step outside - and immediately
feel like you’ve been engulfed in flames. As you rush to your car, your skin
starts to boil, melt. You throw open your car door, crank the AC, and stand as
the car crackles.You wait.
When the temperature inside
the car registers a chilly 95 degrees, you’re ready to climb in, drive away,
and start your day. Welcome to the Sunshine State.
Now, don’t let all this
firey talk fool you, I love this state. I’ve lived in Florida for most of my
life (and before that, the Caribbean) and I’ve resigned myself to the heat. In
fact, after years of sweating, uh, misting lightly, I’ve found ways to make it
look good. And I’m excited to share my tips and tricks with the Florida Fashion
Blogger Link-Up.
So how do I keep it cool without
looking indecent? The secret lies in the summer knit. Light as a feather and
versatile as a pair of jeans, summer knits can be dressed up for sizzling night
out (pair this one with a dark cami, faux leather skirt, and strappy heels) or
toned down for a breezy day by the pool. For my favorite casual look, pair a
knit with a bikini top or a light cami, some bold summer accessories, and a
summer staple, jean shorts.
Finally, a summer look to
keep you and me from melting like a popsicle stick on the 4th of
July. Try it, trust me, you’ll thank me later.

I can't tell you how many times summer knits saved my life. And you just learn to live with the heat, huh? I've only been in Florida for four and a half years, but I'm not sure I could live anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah I think you just adapt to the heat. I have family that visits from up north and freak out when I'm wearing jeans in 90 degree weather. I'm like, "what? oh no - this is NICE weather" hahaha. I'm the same, I don't know if I can live anywhere else...well maybe California :-)
DeleteI love all of your accessories! You definitely look cool, despite the heat. =)
ReplyDeleteThank you! My favorite is my head scarf from the thrift store. Only 50 cents! Saweet
DeleteGreat outfit! Definitely beats the heat. Isn't it ironic that the HEAT won today?!!
ReplyDeleteI like to think that we had a little something to do with it ;-)
DeleteYou know, I don't have anything like this in my closet, but I think I should! The top looks so cute on you, and it definitely would help to beat the heat!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I definitely recommend getting one. You'll find yourself wearing it a lot. Plus, they have a variety of selections at Marshalls ranging from $12-$17 so it's affordable too!
DeleteI love the wedges!
ReplyDeleteLove your hair bandanna, super cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ria! When I saw it at the thrift store I actually picked it up and said to it, "aww poor little thing, why did someone let you go?" Okay, I might be going crazy. But it was so cute!
DeleteI have a very similar sweater and you'll be seeing it in an outfit post rather soon! I know how hot it is getting, and can only imagine the FL heat! The jewelry in yesterday's post, the knuckle ring and the bangles were all from Forever 21. I got them in early May so...not sure if you can still get it in stores. I checked for it online and saw that it was sold out.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how you style it! Thanks, I'll see if they still have it at the Forever21 in Orlando. I'm heading over to your area next week! Going to Chicago for the first time :-)
