It was my first night in Chicago. The plan was to go Navy
Pier and then to an amazing dinner at Girl and the Goat. I wasn’t privy to all
the details of the evening so you know what happens to my imagination, it
quickly finds ways to fill in the holes. I began planning my outfit…
With the bright city lights reflecting off the Lake Michigan waters as my backdrop, I decided the outfit had to have an air of mystery and casual elegance all at once. Then I thought, what if I ended up on a private yacht sailing the night away? Watching the fireworks under the flickering stars while sipping champagne and celebrating my first night in the Windy City. I quickly realized this outfit needed to be flowy and fresh for this type of event.
I pulled together two of my favorite items: my sheer maxi skirt and BCBG clutch. The maxi skirt is a great piece because its sheerness makes the skirt look less overwhelming on my petite body (not that I worry too much about the kinds of skirts I should or should not wear [see here]). The colors were perfect to complement the Chicago skyline and the evening lake waters. The flowyness of the skirt would look beyond romantic on a yacht and the BCBG clutch gives it a little touch of elegance.
We arrived at the Navy Pier and began walking to the docks, “I knew it! I came perfectly prepared!” and then we kept walking and walking and finally passed all the boats. Dang my imagination! It did it again. Oh well, we still had a fabulous time having drinks at the beer garden and watching fireworks from the pier. Not to mention that the food at Girl and the Goat was absolutely amazing. It was the perfect evening, after all, it’s not the first time my imagination runs away with me (and it probably won’t be the last).
Have you ever dressed specifically for an event that turned out to be completely different?
